Digital Futures project equipping Stockholm for extreme weather
Funded by Digital Futures, the research project “Improving resilience: Using insurance data to design better loss prevention” is underway to strengthen the City of Stockholm’s resilience against extreme weather conditions. The focus is on identifying strategies to curb the rising costs linked to fire and flooding, which have the potential to escalate individuals, insurance companies and the City of Stockholm. The increasing risk of extreme weather events, attributed to climate warming, results in substantial annual costs for individuals and insurance companies, particularly due to flooding and damage from extreme heat.
– The aim is to provide insights that can be applied citywide to various property owners facing increasing costs due to the climate crisis, says Christian Thomann, Associate Professor, INDEK, KTH and PI of project.
