Wendy Ju
Scholar in residence June – December 2024
Wendy Ju is an Associate Professor of Information Science at the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute at Cornell Tech and an inaugural faculty member of Cornell’s new multi-college Design Tech department. Wendy’s work in automated vehicle interfaces and human-robot interaction highlights how interactive devices can communicate and engage people without interrupting or intruding.
Prof. Ju has innovated numerous methods for early-stage prototyping of automated systems to understand how people will respond to systems before the systems are built. In her research, Prof. Ju has worked closely with industrial partners such as Toyota, Spotify, Intel, Ford, Bosch, Renault, Fiat Chrysler, Panasonic, Volvo, Nissan and Mitsubishi. She has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford and a Master’s in Media Arts and Sciences from MIT. Her monograph on The Design of Implicit Interactions was published in 2015.
Wendy will collaborate with researchers at KTH, Stockholm University, and Linkoping University on human-robot interaction research. In particular, they will examine how people interact with automated systems such as robots or autonomous vehicles in public spaces.
